ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK

ANTIGUA SAILING WEEK

Antigua Sailing Week has become one of the most significant events for sailing over the last 20 years. It’s a beautiful time to take part in a busy vacation full of fun island parties, and and a perfect opportunity to discover the famous Antiguan hospitality.

This week in sailing is at the end of the busy sailing season for yachters and sailors of all kinds. From the Antigua Charter Yacht Show in December to the regatta for super yachts in January to the Caribbean 600 race that takes place in February and the classic yacht event at the beginning of April, Antigua Sailing Week caps off an epic season of sailing.

It started small, but this regatta has become an event revered around the world, one that includes an Ocean Series. If you’re not a sailor, merely charter a yacht to enjoy the fun. It happens every year in late April and early May, and you’ll get to see ocean-faring yachts take to the high seas in this regatta which brings lovers of sailing from all over.

While the races rage on, yachts follow along to catch the action. You can do so too from aboard your luxury yacht charter. You can also do it from land with many points around the island to the catch the action. The majority of the racing takes place off the south coast of Antigua. Some of the yachts head up to the west coast where Jolly Harbor is on the Thursday of Sailing Week. After the day’s races are done, head to Nelson’s Dockyard in English Harbor to gather with the crews and enjoy happy hour from 3 pm to 6 pm. Live music and nightly parties are always happening all over.

In the middle of the week, no racing takes place, but you won’t want to miss the Antigua Sailing Week Lay Day and its events. You’ll find it at the Antigua Yacht Club, located in Falmouth Harbor. Award is presented on the Friday evening after the last day of racing. After that, the celebrations get pretty wild with plenty of rum and glamorous fun to cap it off.
