MONACO CLASSIC GRAND PRIX
Another Monaco racing event that hails back to the olden days of racing is the Monaco Classic Grand Prix. It’s held in the first few weeks of May, an ideal time to get aboard your yacht charter for a grand yacht charter event you won’t want to miss while tucked away in the Mediterranean Sea.
It happens every two years, just two weeks before the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. The Automobile Club of Monaco proudly hosts the event, the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. They wanted to hold it before the main F1 event. It started in 1997 when the vintage race united over 200 cars that were all built before 1979 to race the same circuit as the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. Held again in 2000 and then every two years in May ever since this event features 10 to 15 laps unlike the 78 the F1 racers must complete. Some of these cars are true relics from before 1947. No cars manufactured after 1978 are allowed.
It’s mostly comprised of private owners who have invested plenty into their habit of collecting vintage vehicle to restore and race in the event. Most drive quite serenely, showcasing the timeless beauty of these machines while others go off the rails. It’s certainly great fun to watch. As the F1 cars have a cockpit that protects them, the Historic Grand Prix is a bit more fun since you can see the racers of these collectible cars, steering with all their might.
This race is great for those that would prefer a little less noise. It’s certainly not as noisy as the F1 race. This race is more for the rich to parade their pampered collectibles around the track. The tickets for this historic race are much cheaper than the F1 race, plus the restaurants aren’t as crowded either. Even hotels are at reasonable rates. It makes visiting on your yacht charter during this vintage race a great choice if you’d love to get the excitement and buzz of the area without being overwhelmed by the throngs of F1 fans in the following weeks.
